Kiosk, “The Things We Never Stop Thinking About” – SVA MA Design Research

Kiosk, “The Things We Never Stop Thinking About”

Founded in 2005, KIOSK functions as both an installation and a store. Products are arranged into themed exhibition-like collections, mostly based on their originating countries, but also on more poetic concepts such as the current one, “Recall,” which presents “things we passed on the first time around but which we never stopped thinking about.” Alisa Grifo and Marco ter Haar Romeny, proprietors of KIOSK, will discuss the things they think about, as well as the ways in which they select, display, and interpret them in their unique store.

Kiosk is a New York City retail store with locations in Union Square West and LaGuardia Place in Soho, whose array of objects—ranging from paper hot air balloons from Portugal, to spices from Japan, to trumpet kazoos made in America—convey travel stories, lessons in material culture, and the uniqueness of things in the world.
