New Amsterdam, Part 1 – SVA MA Design Research

Mark Dudlik

New Amsterdam, Part 1

Part of Vital Signs

“New Amsterdam” is the first installment of an experimental new podcast that presents near-future design fiction in the form of a radio-drama style narrative. The story takes place in New York in the year 2027, ten years after a series of hurricanes flooded major parts of Brooklyn and Manhattan, and follows the Commissioner of Emergency Management, who is going through hearings related to the progress of continued clean-up efforts. The podcast opens with the Commissioner talking with a co-worker as they travel back to New Amsterdam, the name given to the still flooded parts of the city.
