Featuring both acclaimed authors and new voices, The Education of a Design Writer spans design–related disciplines with examples that showcase a variety of styles, techniques, and best practices for writing about design. Site visits, interviewing, personal reflection, and incisive analysis become the basis of stories that demonstrate how design writing can be a springboard for engaging cultural criticism. Contributors include Julie Lasky, Rob Walker, Colette Gaiter, Sarah Boxer, Virginia Postrel, Anne Quito, Liz Danzico, Jarrett Fuller, Michele Washington, and more.
Interpreting design means writing intelligibly and creatively. This book is for those who practice, observe, chronicle, and critique all forms of design—graphic, product, UX, industrial, and architectural, building on the approach of the MA program Design Research, Writing & Criticism, a.k.a. D-Crit, at the School of Visual Arts.
