Why write about design?
When we write about design, we write about the world.
The pioneering curriculum of the MA in Design Research, Writing & Criticism (a.k.a DCrit) focuses on combining humanities-based critical thinking with journalistic skills. The result is thoughtful, sharp, and culturally relevant stories for broad audiences.
Many students are professionals who return to school to pursue a particular research interest, to refine their writing and storytelling skills, or to develop their voice as thought leaders.
The mastery in research, writing, and critical thinking that students gain through the program can apply to a variety of career paths and entrepreneurial endeavors. Using the lens of design as the starting point for compelling, in-depth narratives, the program prepares students for multiple futures: strategic leadership positions in research-driven design studios; careers in journalism and publishing; independent practices with writing and curating projects; or PhD research in a design-related subjects, among other opportunities.
Our seminars are led by a faculty of renowned editors, writers, and thinkers. Check out their bios here.
