Introduction, Tiny Houses – SVA MA Design Research

Mimi Zeiger

Introduction, Tiny Houses

Casulo, designed by Marcel Krings and Sebastian Mühlhäuser, 2008

A mere ten square feet, Casulo is the smallest project included here. Marcel Krings and Sebastian Mühlhäuser’s compact set of furniture can be inserted into an existing apartment and is designed so that students and itinerant professionals can avoid the inevitable trip to IKEA for cheap, basically disposable beds, desks, and dressers, items weighted down by the costs of their manufacture and transportation on the environment […]  These designs illustrate ways to build homes that are reductive in scale but not scope. By making a positive impact on the environment, each house dreams big.
