Aileen Kwun is an award-winning writer and editor based in Brooklyn, New York. Her writing and commentary on art, architecture, and design have appeared internationally in publications such as the Architect’s Newspaper, Cultured, Detail, Disegno, Domus, Grafik, Huffington Post, Icon, Metropolis, and the New City Reader; as well as in catalogues and chapbooks including Five Years, Colophon Foundry; At Water’s Edge, and Dress, which she also co-edited. She received the 2014 Core77 Design Award for Writing and Commentary in the Professional category, and was the Education recipient of the 2010 Winterhouse Award for Design Writing and Criticism. Aileen is currently Associate Editor at Surface magazine, and Founding Partner of Superscript, an editorial consultancy whose self-initiated projects include the itinerant Architecture and Design Book Club, free and open to the public. Formerly Communications Editor of the multidisciplinary design studio Project Projects, Aileen holds an MFA in Design Criticism from the School of Visual Arts (‘11), a Certificate in Publishing from Columbia’s School of Journalism (‘07), and a BA in English Literature and Composition from UC Berkeley (‘07). She is hard at work on a collection of profiles on legendary figures in architecture and design, co-authored with Bryn Smith, and due spring 2015 from Princeton Architectural Press.
