Anja Laubscher
MA Design Research, Writing & Criticism (2018)
Anja Laubscher is a designer, researcher and strategic thinker born and raised in Johannesburg, South Africa. She graduated top of her class with a BA in Graphic Design and Communication from the North-West University in Potchefstroom.
As a graphic design student Anja received numerous Faculty Awards, a Loerie Design Nomination, a Silver Pendoring Mixed Media Campaign Award and a Goldpack Packaging Award. After a few years of working in both studio (Monday Design, Cape Town) and start-up (Delvvio, Johannesburg) spaces, she started questioning the role of design in the current social, environmental, political and cultural challenges her country and the world are facing. Hence her pursuit of an MA in Design Research. She hopes that it will not only satisfy her heightened academic curiosity, but help her grow in her understanding of the contexts, consequences and evolving power of design.
Anja loves drinking exotic tea, tasting new food, reading murder mysteries, meeting interesting people and dancing as if no one is watching.
