Derek Bangle – SVA MA Design Research

Derek Bangle received a Bachelor of Arts in Urban Studies from Brown University and spent a year at the Yale School of Architecture before jumping to the design consultancy Chris Bangle Associates. He is now a New York based design consultant, writer, and translator. His constant search for new lenses through which to examine design and provide insights to clients has led him to engross himself in mannerist/baroque architecture, modular origami, and Japanese linguistics, among many other rabbit holes. This fall, he will begin pursuing an MA in Design Research, Writing & Criticism at SVA. Derek particularly enjoys New York for its neoclassical and eclecticist architectural treasures, and is rumored to be a proponent of ornament on buildings. He is excited to join the MA program for Design Research, Writing & Criticism in order to sharpen his writing tools and to meet others who also enjoy looking at the design world from peculiar angles.
