Jiwon Woo – SVA MA Design Research

Jiwon Woo is a fashion designer based in NYC. She was born and raised in Korea, and began her education in U.S. during her high school years. She obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology from Brandeis University to satisfy her academic curiosity on the human body and its functions. Afterwards, however, Jiwon developed a growing passion for art and design, leading her to enroll at Parsons School for Fashion, where for the past two years she has focused on fashion design. During her education at Parsons, along with work experience from Vera Wang and Marc Jacobs, she further developed her skills and understanding for fashion and its industry.

Jiwon considers design as a means of communication by which to share life experience and aesthetic values. The questions she asks herself as a designer are not only whether or not consumers will like her clothing designs, but also which populations would buy her clothing and why, for instance, the jeans and the suit pants over the culottes.
