devoted to the study of design, its contexts & consequences.
Our graduates have gone on to pursue research-related careers in publishing, education, museums, institutes, design practice, entrepreneurship, & more.3

Miao Xu – SVA MA Design Research

Miao Xu is a designer, sculptor, and researcher examining the theory and practice of arts in the public domain.

Miao holds a BA in English and a Master of Design Studies in Design Theory and Application from China Academy of Art. She has been working at the Public Art Research Center of China Academy of Art, where she participated in many awarding-winning projects, including the Zhejiang Pavilion in Shanghai EXPO, and she was one of the lead curators for the Fourth West Lake International Sculpture Invitational Exhibition. She started her own design firm and practices design and public arts focusing on sustainability, interaction, and technology.

She is looking forward to enriching herself through her experience at SVA and in New York City.
